Homemade Calendula Cream

The first step in making this cream is to make a calendula infused oil. Alternatively you can purchase a quality pre-made organic calendula oil if you don’t have the time or resources to make one. You’ll need one cup total of this infused oil for the recipe, but I always figure it’s better to make more so you have some ready for next time, or to use in other recipes and DIYs.

Ingredients:

To Make:

  1. In a saucepan, bring several cups of water to a boil. Once boiling, turn down the heat to a simmer and place a heat-proof bowl on top of the saucepan to make a double boiler.
  2. Place the infused oil and beeswax into the bowl and allow the mixture to heat until the beeswax has completely melted, stirring the mixture constantly throughout this time to ensure it combines well.
  3. Once melted, remove the bowl from the heat and allow it to cool before adding in the essential oils. Stir the mixture well to combine the ingredients.
  4. Using an electric hand mixer, slowly drizzle the distilled water into the beeswax mixture and whisk on high to combine the ingredients together. You may need to scrape down the sides of your bowl once or twice to make sure all of the water gets incorporated into the cream mixture.
  5. Once incorporated, pour the cream into the sterilised glass containers, and let the cream set for several hours before using.
  6. Since this cream is made with water and does not contain any of the preservatives commonly found in store bought creams, it has a shorter lifespan of around 1-2 months, so it is advised to store this cream in the fridge between uses.
